Waterfront Village and Capitol Hill Village are hosting an AARP Safe Driver training to refresh participants’ knowledge of traffic hazards, driving practices that reduce crash risks and how aging affects our driving experience. The District mandates a car insurance discount for those who complete this training, with the amount up to each insurance company. While there is no test at the end of the training, participants must attend the full program to receive an AARP Safe Driver certificate and receive the insurance discount.
This training is possible thanks to a grant to Capitol Hill Village, Waterfront Village and other D.C. Villages from the D.C. Department of Transportation’s Vision Zero program, an international initiative to create safer roadways for all, including pedestrians and bicycles. Through this grant and one from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, we are encouraging and assisting older adults to explore alternate modes of transportation, in addition to taking steps to become even safer drivers.
To register, please send an email with your name and the name of your Village in the body of the message to firstname.lastname@example.org and write “AARP 6/13 Training” in the Subject Line.
Venue is not ADA compliant; training room is reached by a full flight of stairs.
Lunch will be provided.
